Who knows Jörg raise your hand . In Lugano he is as famous as the mayor and perhaps more than the Gotthards, or vice versa. On the other hand, he has been touring the city with his barrel organ for 32 years and has continued to do so even in times of coronavirus . Jörg has become a symbol of Lugano, to the point that in 2014 - when he was sent away from the window of a luxury fashion shop because his music was annoying - inhabitants, the city hall and the press took his side.

Since then no one has dared to send him away. Barbarossa, as he is known to most people, has now also become the protagonist of a new book - published by Dino & Pulcino - which combines illustrations by Chiara Donelli-Cornaro with a poetic suite by Fabiano Alborghetti. The book - not surprisingly entitled Barbarossa - can be found in all bookstores and was launched precisely from Donelli-Cornaro’s desire to pay homage to Jörg Wolters. ‘Honestly - explains the illustrator - I must say that until 2018, despite seeing him on the street, I had never paid much attention to him but then I read an article about his life, and I was very impressed’.

The idea of making a book was taken from this and it then took shape during the lockdown ‘Me too - explains Alborghetti - I immediately fell under the charm of this enigmatic character. A benevolent and welcoming enigma. The publishing house asked me to write something and, intrigued by his figure, I immediately said yes’.

For Alborghetti it was a different project than usual. ‘For the first time in 15 of my literary career I decided not to meet my subject. I wanted to let the mystery do the talking. Of course, I did research and read everything that has been published on Jörg in recent years, but I wanted to leave some question marks open’. A choice, moreover, perfectly in line with the character. ‘That’s what happens when you meet him. Jörg’s music is heard first, from a distance. Then suddenly he appears, with his somewhat magical clothing. He doesn’t talk to people often. It is his music that speaks’.

His notes on the iTunes Store

And if these days - with the pandemic advancing - you don’t feel like going downtown and you are missing Jörg’s tunes a bit, know that on the iTunes Store you can buy an album containing all his hits: from Alte Kameraden to Speak to me of love Mariù.
