Il giro dell’estate

Il mese scorso ho intitolato l’editoriale «Navigare necesse est», prima metà di un motto latino che in italiano sarebbe «Navigare è necessario, vivere non lo è». Un motto per esploratori. Per curiosi. Per inquieta gente. Per sognatori. Pochi giorni dopo la pubblicazione, mi telefona un lettore e mi dice:«Scusi, ma si può anche restare fermi, neh». Ho sorriso, e ho avuto con lui una piacevole conversazione. Già, si potrebbe restare fermi. A godersi le proprie rendite, concesso che non si assottiglino anno dopo anno, e un fresco giardino, e il canto della nottola di Minerva;fermi a molare lenti e a pensare, come Spinoza; o fermi come Kant, che usciva di casa sempre alla stessa ora. Con l’aria che tira, uno stile di vita un po’ cerebrale, ma comprensibile. Io invece, per carattere, tengo lontani immanentismo e idealismo, e preferisco il consiglio-domanda di Marguerite Yourcenar: «Chi sarebbe così insensato da morire senza aver fatto il giro della propria prigione?». Cioè, come lascia intendere la scrittrice, del mondo intero. Tuttavia nella vita - sebbene oggi sia di moda estremizzarsi, noi di qua, loro di là, i bianchi e i neri, la Nato e la Russia, i vaccinati e i non, «sarà perché si è viaggiato poco» mi dico - bisogna pur mediare. Per tale ragione, stante che il 18 giugno è la Giornata mondiale del picnic, che qui ad Hub abbiamo naturaliter ribattezzato «chic nic», vi proponiamo tre articoli sul tema. Chic nic e glamping sono infatti un’ottima occasione e per restare e per viaggiare, per una danza immobile tra qualcosa che si conosce e qualcosa che sta un po’ più in là. Exploring is the «new wave» of staying still

Last month I called my editorial «Navigare necesse est», the first half of a Latin motto that in Italian would be «Navigating is necessary, living is not». A motto for explorers. For curious people. For restless people. For dreamers. A few days after publication, a reader phoned me and said, «Sorry, but you may as well stay put, neh». I smiled, and had a pleasant conversation with him. Yeah, it is possible to stay put. To enjoy one’s income, granted that it doesn’t get thinner year after year, and a cool garden, and the nightingale’s song of Minerva; standing still by grinding slow and thinking, like Spinoza; or standing still like Kant, who always left the house at the same time. With the current atmosphere, a somewhat brain-numbing lifestyle, but an understandable one. I, however, by character, keep away from idealism, and favor the advice-question of Marguerite Yourcenar: «Who would be so foolish as to die without having made the tour of his own prison»? That is to say, as the writer hinted, of the whole world. Yet in life - though it is fashionable today to go to extremes, we on this side, they on that side, whites and blacks, NATO and Russia, the vaccinated and the unvaccinated, «it must be because you have traveled little». I say to myself - one has to mediate. For that reason, in view of the fact that June 18 is International World Picnic Day, we offer 3 articles on the subject. Chic nic and glamping are in fact a great opportunity and to travel and to stay, for a motionless dance among something you know and something that stands a little further away.
