Editorial

To navigate is necessary

An editorial title in Latin. Yikes. If in some now unreachable «old style» journalism, both combative and measured, like that of Leo Longanesi, Giovanni Ansaldo and Piero Buscaroli, this would never have been a problem capable of calling a «stop press».

Today I suspect that most editors would be asking politely (or furiously, depending on the hour of the evening when they see it appear in front of them) to reconsider, to provide an up-to-date alternative, and to address all readers. Including those who have actually forgotten Latin. This also happens in the world of luxury. There is a lot of talk about exclusive and

unique pieces, but manufacturers’ minds go elsewhere, towards the mass market, i.e. the «exclusive for all», a true oxymoron of our time, right after «providing weapons for peace». Irresolvable dilemmas. Luckily, one can navigate. That’s our cover story for May. A story of freedom. Whether big or small, our vessel, taking to the open sea, sailing away from the coast, generates adventures that can sustain our spirit and intellect, or even redeem a lifetime or discover new continents. In this respect, it’s really interesting to hear something that the mayor of Tirana told me. The bustling Albanian capital is today a place where people are pushing into the future but are also striving to «live well», to reach a standard of living, and to maintain it. Not an easy task, especially in a Europe that is in a constant state of repentance for something. A challenge, which is the same challenge that has accompanied us for millennia.
